How To Pack And
Prepare For Professional Movers
The most important thing that any one should do when moving
is to organize and pack properly. If you what to enjoy a minimal stress moving
day and safe on your moving bill than the only way to achieve this is to declutter
and pack your belongings into proper moving boxes.
Don’t leave your
packing for the last minimum
Don’t leave your packing for the last minimum, this will
only add to stress. Depending how big your move is give yourself about 4 to 8
weeks to organize and pack for your move. Start by going through your home and
declutter, dispose or give to charity any items that you do not need. Keep in
mind that it will cost money and time to pack and move items that you will not
use.
Purchase proper
moving boxes and supplies
After you have disposed of unwanted items you need to
purchase proper moving boxes and
supplies, it is far cheaper to purchase moving boxes and supplies than to
pay the moving company to negotiate and sometimes not being able to take your
items because there not packed. If you’re not familiar of how to pack goods
into boxes and what type and size of boxes to use, spend some time doing some
research.
How to begin your
packing
After you have purchase your packing supplies from your moving company or your local box store, you are ready to begin
your packing. Start your packing on a room per room, start packing all except
the essentials that you will need until moving day. Use the proper size boxes
to pack your items so not to make the box to heavy. The boxes should weigh 30
to 40 lbs not more, most moving companies will not move your boxes if there to heavy.
The simple rule to use is heavier the item smaller the box.
Organize for your
movers
As you are packing your home or condo try to keep in mind
that the movers need to get to some items before others so to pack the moving
truck safely. If you are moving from a home than try to place your boxes as close
to your front door or entrance that movers will use. Place your boxes in a room
on main floor or garage away from furniture. Closer you place your boxes to the
moving truck and easier you make it for the movers faster the loading will be.
If you live in a condo the same concept can be used, place in one area away
from furniture.
Disassemble and
reassemble of furniture
Another way you can help decrease the time needed to complete
your move is for you if possible to disassemble and reassemble your furniture,
this will add to your savings on moving day. Disassembling and reassembling of
furniture can be time consuming for movers this of course will add to the hours
needed to complete your move. As suggested above to place your boxes in one
area the opposite is true with your furniture. Again keep in mind that the
movers need to load certain items before others. The advice with furniture is
to disassemble and leave in the same room so movers can pick what they need
first to load truck.
All Furniture should
be empty
Some people are under the impression that furniture can be
moved without removing contents, this is a bad idea because furniture are not
made to be moved with extra weight. As we can all appreciate that furniture
these days are made very cheap and to expect that you can move this furniture
with goods in them is not reasonable. Another
good reason to empty and pack all your goods from your furniture into boxes is
that the furniture is going to be too heavy for the movers to move.
Parking for Moving
Truck
Sometimes people forget that they need to arrange parking
for the moving truck, if truck can’t park safely to load or offload you won’t
be able to move out or in. If you are moving from condo building you should
inform yourself with condo of what size of trucks they allow and location of
loading area. For individuals living in house dwellings the best parking situation
is to have moving truck park in driveway. If moving truck needs to park on
street than provide parking in front of house, closer the truck is to your
front door faster the load or offload is going to be. You also need to keep in mind the truck has
to be parked so to preform your move safely. An example of this is to expect
that the moving truck can park across the road and have movers carry your
belonging across a busy road.
